Psalm 115

NIV
1 Not to us, LORD, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.
2 Why do the nations say,
“Where is their God?”
3 Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
4 But their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.
5 They have mouths, but cannot speak,
eyes, but cannot see.
6 They have ears, but cannot hear,
noses, but cannot smell.
7 They have hands, but cannot feel,
feet, but cannot walk,
nor can they utter a sound with their throats.
8 Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.
9 All you Israelites, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.
10 House of Aaron, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.
11 You who fear him, trust in the LORD—
he is their help and shield.
12 The LORD remembers us and will bless us:
He will bless his people Israel,
he will bless the house of Aaron,
13 he will bless those who fear the LORD—
small and great alike.
14 May the LORD cause you to flourish,
both you and your children.
15 May you be blessed by the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
16 The highest heavens belong to the LORD,
but the earth he has given to mankind.
17 It is not the dead who praise the LORD,
those who go down to the place of silence;
18 it is we who extol the LORD,
both now and forevermore.
Praise the LORD.

Key Verse:
3 Our God is in heaven;
he does whatever pleases him.
4 But their idols are silver and gold,
made by human hands.

Key Observation:
The unknown psalmest knows that “it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore. Our God Reigns!

Memory Verse:
1 Not to us, LORD, not to us
but to your name be the glory,
because of your love and faithfulness.

Devotion:

McGee points to the passage in Isaiah that mocks the idols Israel raised up to worship instead of worshipping God. (Isaiah 43) “13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house.
14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.
15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto.”

The psalmest is comparing the Lord God with the idols that are built by man. Notice:
1) God does whatever pleases him,
2) Our God is in heaven,
3) Our God is our help and shield,
4) He remembers us and will bless us,
5) The highest heaven belongs to God,
6) He will cause you to flourish,
7) Conclusion: “it is we who extol the LORD, both now and forevermore.”

Notice the facts about the idols:
1) Made by human hands,
2) Cannot speak,
3) Cannot see,
4) Cannot hear,
5) Cannot smell,
6) Cannot feel,
7) Conclusion: “Those who make them will be like them,
and so will all who trust in them.”

Halleluiah! The Lord our God lives. We did not make Him; He made us. He knows us, has all the senses we have and vastly more. But one day, the Scripture says, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

God Is So Good

1. God is so good,
God is so good,
God is so good,
He's so good to me!

2. He cares for me,
He cares for me,
He cares for me,
He's so good to me!

3. I Love Him so,
I love Him so,
I love Him so,
He's so good to me!

4. I praise His name,
I praise His name,
I praise His name,
He's so good to me!
