Devotion:
Idols are discussed here in verses 15 through 18. The psalmest further says that our God is above all Gods. The key verse to the psalm is found in verse 4: the Lord has chosen Jacob. He tells us the Lord will repent concerning his servants. Does this not again refer to Israel? Notice that even in the end, Israel and Levi are asked to bless (praise) the Lord.
While this is a beautiful psalm, and we Christians can find much application to our lives, it is a psalm written to the house of Israel. It is a beautiful promise of the faithfulness of God to Israel. Let no one doubt that God will rule in Israel, and that the world will honor Israel as the place where the Messiah resides.
Paul tells us in Romans 11 that Israel is like a tree with branches broken off. One day soon God will mend those broken branches, grafting them back into the tree where they belong. How beautiful to see the splendor of our great God!
