Sheer Idolatry!

 Sheer Idolatry!

It grieves me dearly when I see Christians dive off the heresy cliff in order to make God “acceptable”. They are the people who seem to study the Bible for what they can glean from it. As a young Christian (in the interests of full disclosure I am no longer young, 72, and holding steady) I assumed, at least in the United States that the times of idolatry were long past. Perhaps, I thought, it still occurred in third world countries, but we had learned our lesson and put idolatry behind us. Never was I so sadly mistaken.

Some Christians today are but a people looking at the Bible, and deciding which truths are no longer true. They proceed to butcher (they would call it finesse) the Word of God.  Casting out this teaching, then that, and finessing their way through Scripture. It is only after their “wresting the Scriptures to their own destruction” that their agenda becomes naked. At that point they insert into the Scripture from their own agenda, and make God to be like they desire Him to be. Then they call to all who are near them and say, “Let us worship God together."

They may as well have created their own golden calf, but it is no longer God. With God we do not get to claim what we desire; instead the Scriptures dictate truth to us. We do not get to rewrite Scripture because truth is no longer in fashion. Aaron, wanting to make an excuse for his sinful behavior said “I just cast their earrings into the fire, and look what came out.”

Of course, Aaron was guilty of idolatry, as were his followers. He stood before Moses, and was reprimanded. Christians similarly will have to stand before Christ one day, with their idolatry still staining their hands. Christ will ask them with what works do they show their service. Alas, for all the works will be burnt up. For they have changed the God of truth to one that more fits their purposes.

Insomuch if it were possible, they will deceive the very elect.

The Bible is given to be believed, not checked and abbreviated; neither added to. It is our job only to clarify and not change. God tells us that He changes not. How dare we make him any other way!
